True, Thunderbolt is nearly gone. Thunderbolt 2 on the other hand will
likely be a round for a few years yet, and Thunderbolt 3 is on the way.
It's a different port for different reasons than USB3 (and assuming you
really mean USB3 and not just the new mini-USB2 port as used in the new
MacBook).
