I was amazed that Occam wrote that, and thought that even in darkest Luxemburg
he would know what Scotland's capital is called. I wondered if it was some sort
of obscure joke.

It depends on who is pronouncing it. I say Edinbrə /'edɪnbrə/, where ə is a 
schwa, in ordinary conversation, or Edinbərə /'edɪnbərə/ if I want to be more 
formal.
