I'm well aware that the Americans managed to have a Civil War rather
after ours, but if I see a post that just refers to "the Civil War" my
default interpretation is going to be that it refers to the English
one. I'm surprised there aren't posts from people in other countries
saying that there's never been a Civil War.

If you wish to do something other than refer to Civil Wars in general,
you'll need to make your reference more specific.
