If you don’t trust programmers, maybe you are the type who would prefer a more hackerly tool than Thunderbird. I use Claws Mail for my MUA, but I do a lot of email composition in Emacs. Sometimes I want to preserve long lines (e.g. logfile entries, program source). I found that, when I paste into Claws, it wraps the lines; but then I hit CTRL/Z, and what it undoes is not the paste, but the wrap. In Pan I just turn off line-wrapping altogether. So it keeps the exact line breaks I created in Emacs.
