Yeah, that's what I mainly was referring to in the OP, having to deal with multiple new extension incompatibilities. As I watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMtzH3uLpkc I again hear nonsense like this "cleaner, softer, and more customizable feel" mantra. The focus seems to be on looks, not functionality. So yet again, more advanced users will need to hack using userchrome.css tweaks.
