I'm using Thunderbird 140.13.0est under windows 10-64*, and the perhpas,
as well as the one of my common mis-spellings I've added (but not the
correctly-spelt word), has a wiggly red underline, as it does in the
body of this text, as fo hsdejong and Betterbird. (Though, oddly, not
"fo" which I just mistyped for "do". That must be a word!)

I don't know whether it's Windows or Thunderbird that's doing that checking.

As you say, it picks up anything in the body that might indicate
attachments (but not that word if it has the s on it!). Including the
letter-pair cv, which usually tells me I've caught the V key when typing
a C or vice versa.

* I see it _is_ now offering me the upgrade to 153.0.1esr.
