What is the extension of the file you friend gave you?

Can you import it into your phone and see all of the text.

In the worst case and if you can get the whole thing readable in 
notepad. If you can scroll through the file, looking for repeating odd 
characters.  If so these are probably the end of conversation marker.

Go through and copy the text BETWEEN the repeated characters copy them 
to a second copy of notepad or LibreOffice and print that text.  repeat 
until you have printed the whole file.
