Mr. Man-wai Chang you may well know the following but
in case you do not I explicate the matters at hand.

Actually Harry Potter and his friends are the subjects
not only of a Movie but of a long series of books and each book
is long and the each book in the series gets longer. It was very
popular with the young people a long time before the movies.
I never got into the Potter matters in very deeply but
when nothing better was available I would look at the movies
on TV. My equivalent series was the Lord of the Rings from
the Hobbit onward.

I also liked the EE Doc Smith "Interplanetary" and
Lensman stories, the stories of Manuel by James Branch Cabell.
Loot at Figures of Earth for a sample.

Magic per se is not real. David Copperfield was a
slight of hand artist before he went to TV and Video. His
magic is not "real". The idea of "real magic" was invented
when people did not understand the real physical world
very well so they invented stories to explain what they
saw during natural events.

This group, rec.arts.sf.written. is about fictional
i.e. unreal matters. Lots of stories you see on Television
or Video are based on books or at least written out stories
that may go directly to film or have a history of being
printed. SF no longer stands for Science Fiction as it
die in my distant youth but for Speculative Fiction
which includes not only speculative science but
fantasy such as gods, demons, vampires, zombies and other
un-dead creatures but fairies, gnomes, leprechauns, pixies
and little i.e. child-sized adults, very small men.
Over-indulgence in alcohol and other poisons may well
have a part in these imagined creatures.

Time travel is not real and may most likely be
as impossible as "real" magic and yet films and videos
have been made about it.

According to our understanding of the Universe
Star Wars and all the episodes and seasons of Star
Trek are totally impossible. Both were based on stories
published in Science Fiction magazines from mostly the
20th Century which ran from 1901 to 2000. Those magazines
have suffered an unfortunate decline in the 21st Century
where people will live (hopefully) until the 22nd Century.

David Dalton seems to me to be very confused
and seems to believe in magic of one sort or another.
I see that he includes children's books in this mailing
and talking animals featured in many children's books
are not real. I do not believe in Magick however it is
mis-spelled. And the same goes for spells and hexes.
There are some paranormal phenomena which seem interesting
but which seem become very elusive when examined closely.
Freddie the talking Pig was amusing to a young person
in the 1940s at any rate.

But this group rec.arts.sf.written is about
stories not about reality and people who want to talk
about the reality of impossibility should be disregarded
Dalton is in my filters on several groups where he
almost never seems to on topic.
