Last night during the meeting several people expressed their sadness that I
was leaving the area and how much they appreciated my shares and presence.
It was actually quite embarrassing to me and I wished they would stop and
go back to the topic. 

After the meeting some of the group members suggested having a going away
party for my wife and myself. I know my wife doesn’t like these people and
would definitely not attend. I certainly would not go by myself to be
“honored” by them so I kind of played it off and said that wasn’t
necessary. I’m not even a member of that group. 

I appreciate that people in the AA community respect and like me, but I’m
just another member sharing their ESH. I don’t want to be a guru or placed
on a pedestal. The last thing I need is my ego stroked and start thinking
how important I am in the rooms. 

What would you have done?
