Aucklanders are shocked -- shocked, I tell you -- to discover that
different branches of the same supermarket chain can charge wildly
differing prices for the same item -- in this case, 99¢/kg for
potatoes in one place, $4.99/kg in another place

Things not to buy at a supermarket:
  * fruit and veges
  * meat
  * milk

Go have a look at a fruit-and-vege shop for the first and third items,
and a butcher for the meat. (I can remember when butchers sold milk as
well, but I don’t think they do this any more.) For the first two, you
should find a wider range of choice available, and for all three,
definitely better prices. For example, here in Hamilton, you can
currently get 2×2-litre bottles of milk for $7.50 or less from New
Save or elsewhere, whereas the supermarket price might be a dollar
more.
