There is no real competition. Telecom New Zealand via it's supposedlt split-off company Chorus owns all the phonelines, all the exchanges, and at least partly--owns the international cabling as well. So basically they set the price all the ISP companies are stuck with. > >>>> Well - that's the OS X side - I really have no idea how easy or not it > >>>> is with Windows - I recall updating WinXP service packs and it was > >>>> tedious. > >>>> > >>>> Last times I updated Linux it was very easy as well (and that's been a > >>>> few years). > >>> > >>> Windows is even worse since you not only have the more numerous OS > >>> patches and other software updates, but also the constant anti-virus > >>> updates to download. > >> > >> A-V updates (definitions) are automatic with most A-V packages. Some download just the new / updated definitions, but others have to download fairly huge files. On the old Windoze PC my mother used to have it used to take about 30 mins to download each update via a dial-up connection.
