Fairly pointless for the phone exchange to have power when most people thes days use wireless portable phones, most of which need power to the base station to work. :-) We had a power outage here (scheduled due to repairs) a couple of weeks ago which lasted about five hours. When the power came back on we still had no dial tone on the landline phone for another hour ... probably some fool forgot to turn the power back on for the exchange.
