technically maybe not, but the reality is most users do.

calendars and contacts no longer sync over usb, and although it's
possible to use your own caldav and cardav server, very, very few will
know how to set that up.

you could also use google but that's not really any different than
icloud. the data is on someone else's system.

they say they will remove anything objectionable, which means they do.
