exactly why the existing implementation is bad.

you seem to think that people preferring native apps is unusual. you
would be very wrong.

if that were the case, why bother writing ipad native apps at all?

since there are several hundred thousand ipad native apps, clearly an
awful lot of people want native apps and do *not* want to run apps in
compatibility mode.
