I'm not talking bout purchased apps; I'm talking about *updated apps*. 
Purchased apps are automatically downloaded to the computer because
iTunes is always running in the background.

I rarely sync the device to the computer; the devices automatically
sync to iCloud.  When I synced to the computer a few days ago, it was
the first time in about 2 1/2 months, and there were 184 apps that
needed to be synced.
