You actually had a fan moved by a belt? I have not seen that in forty years, here (AFAIK) all the fans are electric. Unless "fan belt" is just the name. Typically the belt moves the alternator, the water pump, maybe the air conditioner compressor... Some brands had the bright idea of having a cam shaft rubber belt submerged in oil (groan). -- Cheers, Carlos. ES🇪🇸, EU🇪🇺;

we tend to call it a fan belt even when its really an auxiliiary drive belt
Types of Vehicles Equipped with Viscous Fans
Classic and Modern Rear-Wheel Drive Cars: Many traditional RWD
sedans and sports cars (such as older Mercedes-Benz models like the
Mercedes-Benz W108/W109, BMW/ZRoadster RWD platforms, and various
classic European or Japanese tourers) rely on a belt-driven mechanical
viscous fan.
Off-Road and 4WD SUVs: Rugged, utility-focused 4x4s—most famously
older Land Rover variants (like the 300TDI and V8 models), Toyota Land
Cruisers, Jeeps, and Nissan Patrols—use viscous fans because they
deliver high, reliable airflow during slow-speed rock crawling or heavy
idling where electric fans might struggle.
Light Commercial & Sprinter Vans: Delivery and utility vans (such
as Mercedes-Benz Sprinters) frequently utilize viscous fan clutches to
handle heavy payload heat management.
Heavy-Duty Trucks & Commercial Vehicles: Long-haul semi-trucks,
medium-duty delivery trucks, agricultural tractors, and construction or
mining machinery heavily rely on viscous or electronically modulated
viscous fan drives for massive cooling capacity

Belts and interference engines aren't a good combination. I had a Geo (rebranded Suzuki) with a serpentine belt. I replaced it at 80k to be on the safe side.

My pickup has a fan belt but it's an '86 so meets your 40 year criteria. It took me a while to get used to electric fans. When I turn a car off I expect it to stay off and not suddenly produce whirring noises.

I remember the first time I heard the feature while walking by. In my long experience an engine turning off in a queue of cars at a stop sign of traffic light is not a Good Thing. It started again as the queue moved forward and I was relieved. I thought I might be drafted to push a dead car to the shoulder.

A Volvo White truck I drove had a 9 speed overdrive transmission. The
basic shift pattern was
1 2
3 4
I put over 100,000 on that truck and still would blow shifts if I wasn't
paying attention. Muscle memory isn't always a good thing.

Carlos should weigh in on Spanish. I know the Columbian, Mexican, and Puerto Rican versions differ in vocabulary and pronunciation and have drifted from Castillian. Quebec French might not be recognizable in Paris. You don't even need New World countries long separated from the motherland. Swabian German vaguely resembles Hochdeutsch, the German version of Received Pronunciation.
