The drawing appears to have been done with CAD, probably Orcad, because
it has its appeareance. Components like valves are taken from a library.
The engineer uses the program, just using the existing components,
designed by the software company, and some times locally.
I wonder what was the intention of the designer when creating that
library. It surprised me a lot. Had I been in charge, I would have used
the library editor and changed that plate.

In my high school days I designed and build a tube amplifier for the school band The guitar player liked it, Many years later he asked me to design some more stuff for him.

"Diagrams" pref to show actual connection details. However there's just SO much space on a page so don't expect every valve/cap/whatever to be "to physical scale". Hey, a power or impedance-matching transformer, "to scale", it'd use up 80 percent of a page easily :-)

I think it's even what "schematic" _means_ that it _represents_ how things are connected together, not how they're physically arranged. There _are_ some historic anachronisms that have remained: the symbol we mostly use for a transistor - basically shaped like a capital letter K (as well as the name "base" for that connection) - represents the original point-contact transistors (but like a cat's-whisker in construction); I have seen a transistor symbol with the base as a horizontal rectangle, with the emitter and collector as a vertical line through it with an arrow on the emitter side, but that's rarely used (and probably not in any standard). The best-known schematic diagramme - showing connections, not geographical layout - is the London tube map (which many other such maps around the world, for both underground and overground network maps follow). When first proposed (by an electrical engineer! who worked for them), London Transport didn't think it would be very popular, as it is actually far from geographically representational; however, it proved exceptionally so, and remains so to this day, to the extent that many people's mental image of London _is_ the tube map, not the real layout. (The best-known example of its non-geographicality is that there is at least one case of a pair of stations X and Y, where looking at the "map" you'd think you'd get on one tube line from X, go one stop to a junction station, change, and go one stop on the other line to Y - whereas in fact it'd be quicker to walk out of station X and walk 100 yards down the road to where Y is.) -- J. It was a standard, but at some point some august intertanational body changed it all to what we have now -- There is nothing a fleet of dispatchable nuclear power plants cannot do that cannot be done worse and more expensively and with higher carbon emissions and more adverse environmental impact by adding intermittent renewable energy.

Multicore cable! And transmitting actual power! That's expensive. The Telefónica system used the same copper pair as the phone, multiplexing a few channels on higher frequencies. Thus some kind of receiver was needed, but no additional copper. -- Cheers, Carlos. ES🇪🇸, EU🇪🇺;
