"BBC Archive" occasionally tweet (is that still the right verb now it's
called X? If not, "post on X") an old report, usually from one of the
"soft news" prog.s.

I presume from the colour of today's one -
https://x.com/BBCArchive/status/2080186154255524218 - that the archive
is kept on film, at least where the original was shot on film, rather
than as video (it has the colour cast of old film recently scanned
(muted reds and blues, roughly).

There I was, sitting in a glum mood - 'Cheer up, things could be
worse', he said, so I cheered up, and sure enough, things got worse.

Certainly looks like film. It's a bit annoying that a clip about
dialect is silent, with no obvious unmute button ...

If viewed as I am in edge, if you hover over the image, controls appear
- the crossed-out speaker is fourth from the right.

In firefox hovering doesn't show the controls, they only appear once the
clip ends.

Hmm. Something to tell the Furefox people!

If this power [television] is ever brought to mechanical perfection,
there is little reason, except the desire to be gregarious, that anyone
but a few should go in person to any place of entertainment again.

In my Firefox, which is not the latest version as I'm on Windows 8.1,
the clip won't play unless I log in to X, which I can't because the 'Log
in with Google' option doesn't work.

I can view the clip in Supermium browser, which doesn't ask me to sign
in to X and shows the controls when I hover.

Brilliant design ... a mute button shows up once the clip ends!
