Closest waterway:	Shropshire Union Canal
Starts at: Bridge 133, Backford
Ends at: Bridge 131, Knolles

"Overnight there has been a significant loss of water in the pound
between Chester and Ellesmere Port, on the Shropshire Union Canal. This
is due to a leak at Culvert 16..."

https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/019817a5-1267-7775-83bb-547ca398a9d1

Culvert 16 can be found on the CART Canal Reference Map:
https://canalrivertrust.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapTools/index.html?appid=b46e3e0bda4a44a0be267df7674139a5
It's Functional location is SU-011-002. It can't be searched for
directly, but you can search for "SU-011" and find it from there.

Latest anticipated opening: 12th December.

https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/019817a5-1267-7775-83bb-547ca398a9d1

Timeline so far:
17/7	Leak occurs.
8/9	Work commences. 53 days delay.
12/12	Estimated completion. 128 days total.

Seems to me that BW have forgotten how to make repairs in a timely
manner. Four months to repair a culvert is unacceptable.

Meantime, I read that trapped boaters are getting snotty overstay
notices from the BW computer.

It is reasonable to assume that culvert repair will be an on-going
problem as all the culverts on the system were built at very roughly the
same time. Two or three failures per year is to be expected it would
seem.
