#134927 — Best Macintosh email client 2019

... any suggestions?

After more than 20 years I finally need to retire my beloved PowerMail,
and this time I can't put it off any longer.

I'd prefer to be able to import all that mail history (PowerMail does a
pretty good of exporting so it shouldn't be too hard).

I've been using POP with those accounts, but will start using IMAP with
the new client.

What are your favourites, and why?

Daniele

I’ve been trying out Spark for a couple of months. It seems to handle
attachments much better than Apple’s email app. It’s also free and multi
platform - iOS, Android, macOS - if that’s important to you. I use IMAP
exclusively now incidentally.

Apart from the usual suspects, wasn't there mention from a UCSM
contributor a wek or so ago that he'd created his own client (with
echoes of Eudora)? Did you catch it?

Ah - it was Tim Streater in the 'Apple Mail and inline attachments' thread.

Is this this the bit where I recommend MailMate? Again. :-)

Just trialling MailMate. Impressed so far but £50-ish license fee is
putting me off. May be worth it in the end depending on how Apple Mail
performs on Catalina during MM trial period.

Have to agree, Mail in Catalina is working fine for me so far, which
makes it hard to justify £50 for a new client. Trouble is there are
quite a few reasonable alternatives cheaper, or even free.

Every time I've trialled though, I've wanted to buy it, but it's just
too pricey for my needs.

My biggest trouble at the moment is Mail on the iPad with the new
iPadOS, that's refusing to updated the mailboxes to match the rest of
them on other devices.

I’ve seen the odd email in my iPadOS inbox I thought I had deleted on my
MBA. The next iteration of iPadOS (and iOS 13) must be just around the
corner so let’s see if that cures the problem.

I'm hoping that's the case too.

In those situations, I always ask where is their business model and
does it align with my aspirations for long-term use of an app.

When I first got a Mac in 2003 I bought a ridiculously expensive mail
client called MailSmith, then when I had to move to IMAP another called
MailMate, because it had a similar philosophy and aesthetic. I'm also a
MailMate *subscriber* and don't regret a penny.

Obviously everyone's priorities differ.

Not one I've actually used a lot, but I'm amazed it's still going, and
just updated today for 64-bit:

One to check out at least.

Yeah, I’m always surprised when someone mentions this is still going! I
