Has anyone else been experiencing issues with TM backups over WiFi using 
SMB to NAS drives in the last 2 or 3 macOS releases? My WD NAS was 
reliably performing TM backups over WiFi until the arrival of Ventura when 
I and many other users started having failures claiming timeouts, 
inability to copy certain files even to create sparse bundles on 
destination drives. The situation seemed no better with Sonoma. WD claimed 
there were bugs in Apple's implementation of SMB and offered no further 
support. So I stopped using the NAS for some considerable time relying on 
large capacity USB connected drives instead for TM. BTW I've also been 
performing separate backups via CCC to portable USB drives with no problem 
for many years. Anyway a couple of weeks ago I fired the NAS up and 
immediately received a firmware update. In the meantime my MBP has been 
updated to Sequoia and, bingo! TM backups are working again to my NAS. I 
haven't found anything (yet) on the WD support site to suggest the 
firmware update was particularly related to the problem.

No, mine have been chugging along fine, to a TrueNAS destination (and a
Time Capsule but you'd bloody hope that'd work).

Indeed it should!

I bought the NAS in early 2022 on a "special" discount when Monterey was the
current macOS version and it worked fine with both my M1 MBA and Intel MBA.
Problems started to arise sporadically with Ventura. But with Sonoma and early
Sequoia, TM backups were just not working at all. I downgraded my OCLP'd MBA
to Monterey and TM worked fine on that machine again. I preferred to keep my
MBP's macOS up to date and settled for backups to USB drives. At one point I
considered installing Netatalk which should enable AFP and downgrading the NAS
firmware to a version which also supports AFP!

Still working after 15.4 update - are we on a roll now?
