It matters not a jot, tittle nor iota what harm, if any, you do me,
it only matters that I have politely and nicely asked you to be
polite, to be kind, to be nice, to be decent, to be compassionate and
courteous and to please help me just a little bit.

That's all I asked. For you to make my life a tiny, little bit less
ugly, less noisome, less tedious and more nice. Please.

It's not an undue burden to you. It's not as though I'm asking for
you to learn how to program in COBOL or FORTRAN. It's not as though
I'm asking for help, money nor your kidney to keep me alive.

All I am requesting is that you do *less* work. That you stop doing
work. That you make *less* effort. That you make *your* life a little
less burdensome, tiresome and stressful and that you do not, ever,
'nymshift.

What is there about this that you find so odious?

Honestly, why would you care whether I see your posts or not? Why is
it so important that you continuously force me to delete them and to
add yet another variation on your names and eddresses to my filters?
What is it that makes you *try* so hard to be seen? Why do you insist
on forcing your way into my little home?

I don't give a fuck if you filter me. Eight milliards of humans and
more machines already do. I'm not going to 'nymshift just so you can
be forced to see me, even if you don't read my glorious words. I don't
*care*.

 So why do you?

Why are you this rude, unkind, obnoxious, indecent, inhumane,
discourteous and selfish?

Please, take the easier path, pick a 'nym and stick to it.

Please? For me? Because I asked nicely?

 If not, why not?

Why are you being so *mean* to me?

                                                       J.

You clearly do not remember. Check out the thread "Usenapp Author Query" that
YOU started 1 month ago. January 19, 2025.

Remember now?

To quote myself in that thread, "God DAMN you are stupid."

I might try it again at some point. Would love to find a client that allows me
to mark or color posts on content. Say if I am interested in the word
"AppleScript" I can have all posts with that word be labeled blue.

No, I mean having the file list show that. Or having smart folders. NewsTap
does that... though it has other significant issues.

Could Usenapp be checking for updates and licences through
"unexpected network connections beyond those specified by the user"?
Many, many programs do things like those. Some, such as DVD-rippers
and CD-rippers even try to log into databases from which they can
acquire metadata about the programs, movies and music on the discs.

Checking for updates and licences could look odd to a wary user not
familiar with the addresses of what the Usenapp program calls Home but
would not really be a security hole.

                                                             J.

I note that *YOU* aren't using it John! ;-) (X-Newsreader: Forte Agent
4.2/32.1118)

FWIW - I *have* bought and paid for Usenapp. I'm chosing not to use it
as Andre is unwilling to meet the challenges I've made. His product MAY
be just fine - if so, he should defend it, not hide in the shadows. :-(

You could also have noted that I use Windows-7 as my Operating System.
Usenapp probably doesn't run on Win-7. Even if it does, I like Agent,
it suffices. It has done for over two decades. I know how to work it
and how to make it look and feel as I want it to.

Note, if you are able to that I also don't use the "latest and
greatest" Free Agent or Agent. Agent 4 is sufficient to my needs. I
see no reason to change it.

Unlike people such as Microsoft, Kobo, Apple and Mozilla, Forté do
not make their old softwares unusable in the name of bogus "security"
theatre. Agent 4 just works.

Why would I bother to change, even if I were able?

Now, I was nice to you and gave you an explanation which I was not
required to so could you please return a favour to me?

Stop 'nymshifting. Pick an address and a pseudonym and stick to them
forever, please?

But will you please stop 'nymshifting so I can block you forever?

 Please?

Just to be nice, kind, compassionate and courteous?

 Please?

Pick a 'nym and an eddress and stick to them.

 Please?

                                                    J.

Dialling home to check an app is licensed or has updates is very common,
perfectly legitimate practice. There are several utilities available that
can monitor outgoing messages if anyone is concerned. Mind you they might
dial
home too ;-)

Yes, that's why I mentioned it.

However, not everyone is aware of how common it has become, lately.
It once was extremely rare but now graphics, DVD-player, Ripper, even
Office softwares are all doing it, whether they have licences or not.

 That may worry some people.

>perfectly legitimate practice.

As they keep trying to make us believe and which I do not. If you
have a licence, it can be registered in the operating system files on
your box. There is never a need for a call-home to verify this.

And "updates" should be an opt-in button for the User to press. Once
I buy your software and install it on my machine, that copy is *mine*
not yours.

Okay, limited "mine" but still mine.

Were I to buy a claw-hammer, you would not expect to have the freedom
to steal it to use to smash in the locks on the front door of my home,
would you?

>There are several utilities available that
>can monitor outgoing messages if anyone is concerned. Mind you they might

Most likely, for "security, education, information, update and
telemetry purposes". Among other more bogus "reasons".

Once I have install a calculator onto my iPad, which comes without
one to my utter astonishment, there is no - *NO* - *legitimate* reason
why it should *ever* call anyone whether its home or a scammer on the
Indian sub-continent or in USAlia.

Only profiteering and spying - hoovering up personal and machine data
- explain it.

Try it this way: some camera-wares allow nasty bastards to activate
the camera on your MacBooks and Macs without your permissions or
knowledge. This is a "legitimate" function of the software. Are you
happy allowing the world into your home surreptitiously?

No? So why should we allow them to read our list of contacts?

What the Fuck does my camera need with a list of *email* addy's?

                                                             J.

Does Usenapp allow the use of boolean operators in its filters? I use one
filter to catch that bod & his pals, though admittedly with quite a few
arguments. Keeps things tidy though.

Well it certainly supports regex expressions in filters. I only have limited
knowledge of regex but I understand it does support some boolean operators
although AND has to be fudged?

Here's a good, random, example of a developer who does NOT hide (like
Andre!)

It's ALWAYS best to be open and honest!

I don't know if Usenapp can do this but k/f on crosspost or followup to
alt.computer.workshop catches a lot. Otherwise I k/f on his current
email only; IME he rarely recycles them.

You are correct.

Are YOU concerned about using Usenapp too?

Do tell.
