#135138 — SuperDuper!

I am getting slightly frustrated at the lack of a SuperDuper backup
software version for Catalina. I am just about ready to make the switch
and pay the 32-bit taxes but do want to be able to run my preferred
backup software eventually!

I'm seeing SD! 3.2.5 as 64-Bit.

the issue isn't bitness, but rather a variety of compatibility issues,
in particular, having a separate read-only copy of the system.

As you might expect, the "new way" Catalina splits your drive into
two parts makes things more complicated. The details are hidden
from you by Apple for the most part, but SuperDuper has to know,
and handle, all the various tricky cases that arise from that split
(not to mention the technical details of tying the volumes together,
which we figured out early in the summer).

Carbon Copy Cloner seems to have this sorted out now, but, if you really
like Superduper!, that's not much consolation.

it has, and it's vastly more capable.

Thanks - I guessed there'd be more to it shortly after posting.

Better URL for blog item - https://www.shirt-pocket.com/blog

Sounds like it won't be long. I've stick with Superduper because the
support is good - at least three times I've emailed them with issues
and they always come back very quickly.

Use Carbon Copy Cloner.
Excellent support by the way.

That’s what I use. More functionality (as pointed out earlier by nospam)
for about £33 depending on exchange rate.

I did wonder about CCC as I've read lots of reports of people using it
happily. I suppose at the end of the day a bootable image is a bootable
image but I've been happy with Super Duper for a few years now.

I _am_ disappointed they weren't quite ready for a major new release
though, despite this being tricky stuff to accomplish.
