I've been and one and done it!

I have gone up to V 26 on the iMac, iPhone and iPad. the newly purchased Apple
Watch is updating (I had to do the iPhone first) and will be another
half-hour.

I had to update DefautFolder, but no problem there. Everything else I've tried
so far (which isn't much) has been OK - in particular the scanner nd printers.

No issues here either.
iPhones, wife's iPad mini and 2 Macs.

The third is an Intel T-model bought in early 2019 which just moved to 
15.7. It is not possible to go to 26. The machine closes in on the end 
of its useful and secure life.

I did not find out how to install a Linux on this particular machine 
yet. Various drivers are missing.

I've installed Fedora 42 on an external SSD plugged into my 2017 Macbook
Air. Similar to other Linuxes I've tried, the issues usually involve 
finding suitable WiFi drivers and sorting out the Display resolution. I've
now got WiFi working but can't improve the 1440 x 900 display. I need to
investigate alternative graphic drivers.

Probably no issues with that one. But the T-models - mine being a 2018 
15" MBP - are very particular. The worst is the missing driver to use 
the keyboard.

I think the display in the 2017 MBA is only 1440x900, isn't it?

You can set a <100% scaling factor so you get more workspace on the screen
at the cost of increased fuzziness, if that's your desired outcome.

Yes of course you're absolutely correct - I should have known that!

I've already tried that and sadly it now seems the only way ahead.

I’ve updated my iPad Pro (2020), iPhone 12 mini, watch 7, HomePods (mini),
and AppleTV 4K (gen 1). Looking ok so far. I actually like the ‘glass’
look. Otherwise I think most of it offers little advantage to me - just
struggling more with storage on the iPhone is all.

My old MBP (2017) is stuck with Ventura (I’ve given up with using OCLP for
now, preferring overall stability to the extra features).

I updated everything to 15.7/18.7.   Not interested in 26 at this point.

 I have a MacBookPro which was something like 15.3 and which I just
updated to 15.7 with no ill-effects. Everything works lovelyly. I also
have a MiniMac which was a present, M1 thingy, which was also 15.3 and
has been updated to 15.7 and was working great on that version. 

 I've started an update to Toenail on the Mini. It's taking *ages* to
download. The thermometer says it has 20 minutes to go. Yeah, sure,
and I have this magic bean I can sell it. 

 When it started, 3 hours ago or so, it said it was doing to take 21
*DAYS* to download. There is something seriously askew in Apple's
server-land. Or in the guessing game in the software ........

 Oh, wait, the Mini just died (that was *NOT* 20 minutes, honey) ...
it has the Apple silhouette and the thermometer showing that it's
rebooting. Yay! Oh, screen is all dead ... and now it's Apple-and-bar
again only with more white in the thermometer ... this is *exciting*!
(Its really not but it *is* mildly interesting.) 

 Oh, kernel-lickings, it's gone and shown me my login screen. This is
cool.So I login and get another bar-and-apple screen. This one tells
me I have to wait 8 minutes. Well, I guess I don't have much choice in
that, do I? Damn, but I'm *sure* that some of those "8 minutes"
minutes are longer than others and some are a lot shorter than a
minute. I don't think that the booty-thing is connected to Real Time. 

 Oh! The login screen. And Taco has booted. Everything works fine ...
oh, apart from bloody "Microsoft NTFS by Tuxera". That still needs its
"extension" verified by "privacy an Security". That took about
half-a-dozen reboots and a trip into Recovery Mode to activate the
security options. And it has a bloody update. Of *COURSE* it has a
bloody update. :) 

 Aaaaaannnnd ... well, the update to MNTFS didn't need a restart.
That's good. 

 The Terminal window I was using in 15.7 carried over, complete with
its history of commands so I was able to restart Mprime (the Apple
Silicon version of Prime95, the Mersenne Prime hunter ware from
https://mersenne.org). The individual workers seem to be running
perfectly. 

 My wifi connects. Firefox runs. 

 I think the update to Taco was a roaring success.
