My, my memory (personal!) must be really shot. I don't recall Gremlin 
being involved at all!
I have had long discussions about the situation with ChatGPT and long 
before the failure
I arranged for my iMac to boot and operate from a 1TB external SSD. That
doesn't show up in the EtreCheck report because I deliberately removed
it from its Thunderbolt connection before scanning.
