Yes I see this occasionally. Just a spinning "busy" icon and a blank message.
 Going to another message and back fixes it. I assumed it was some kind of
failure to connect to the server. I am using the mouse and not the arrow keys.
 

Certainly not a big deal, just annoying. I see it on this 2014 intel i5 Mac
Mini and on my M2 Mac Book Pro. 

A new M4 Mini is coming in a couple days.   I'm sure I'll see it there too.
