How the recent tax cuts and budget deal jack up the national debt — in one chart Dec 20, 2018 Washington needs to make fixes to the Social Security and Medicare programs, but it also must "stop making the problem worse," said Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan watchdog organization. | Marco Rubio was incensed. Here he was in the Cabinet Room
| of the White House, the secretary of state, seated beside
| the president and listening to a litany of attacks from the
| richest man in the world.
|
| Seated diagonally opposite, across the elliptical mahogany

|
| You have fired "nobody," Mr. Musk told Mr. Rubio, then

|
| Mr. Rubio had been privately furious with Mr. Musk for

| The tolerance for Elon Musk inside of the White House is
| wearing thin, as they deal with the fallout of his
| calamitous interview with Larry Kudlow when he touched the
| third rail - entitlements. Even though Trump's staffers are
| terrified of Musk, they know that if you try to cut Social
| Security, Medicare and Medicaid, you die, politically
| speaking.
|
| "It's no longer simmering resistance, people are fucking
| furious," said a source with knowledge of the situation.
|
| "Medicaid is not just for Black people in the ghetto, these
| are our voters," said a Republican operative close to the
| White House.
