Police said a 10-year-old boy was taken into custody for allegedly
shooting the infant, and a 19-year-old was facing gun-related charges.

ST. LOUIS — A 7-month-old girl has died after being shot Friday
afternoon inside a north St. Louis home. Two people, including a
10-year-old boy, were taken into custody.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting happened
at about 4 p.m. on the 8400 block of N. Broadway.

Responding officers put the infant, Kiyomi Parker, into their police
SUV, and one officer drove to the hospital while another performed first
aid in the backseat. The child later died at the hospital due to her
injuries.

Police said preliminary investigation revealed a 10-year-old boy had
shot the baby. He was taken into custody, and detectives were working
with the Juvenile Courts to determine the next steps.

A 19-year-old was also arrested after questioning for gun-related
charges.

Homicide and child abuse investigators were conducting a joint
investigation.

St. Louis police spokesperson Mitch McCoy said arriving officers did not
wait for an ambulance.

"The officers heroically put the child in the back seat of the police
SUV and rushed her to a hospital. While one officer was driving, another
officer was performing life-saving care on the infant in the back seat,"
McCoy said.

McCoy added that while the investigation was in its early stages, police
did not believe the girl shot herself, and they were not searching for
any suspects.

"The gunshot was real loud, like fireworks in a big box. It sounded like
boom, boom, boom," said one neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous. "I
heard the lady kept saying, 'My baby was shot! My baby shot,' as she ran
outside.

"My prayers really do go out to the mother, the child and the whole
family," added the neighbor.

No other details on how the shooting occurred were immediately
available.
