no air, no water.....

and you cant get it all from rocks

how do you mine for water? get your bulldoser and push dirt into a
hopper to heat it up ?

how much water vapor (oz/day) will condense on a cold finger in such a
thin atmosphere ?

even then you have to already have 1,000,000 gallons to support the colony

First you have to send all the machinery, raw stock, air, food and water
to build an infrastructure along with the reactors to power it all. Then
you can send people to build things.

who would want to go there ?

Beach front property!

[no air, no water, every day high UV, and you have to live underground
in a tube 95% of the time to avoid radiation]

Lots of people would want to go to Mars, but not many with $200,000 to
throw away.

Of those what want to go, have the $200,000, and get through the training,
I doubt very many will want to stay for life.

How many people moved to the "new world" in the 1600s and 1700s from Europe and then went back ? I would be surprised if it was 1%.
The ship voyage was a very rough 6 to 7 weeks.

Apples and oranges.

Let's see you arrive on Mars with the wife and kids, a shovel, axe, and
a bag of seeds, build a cabin and start your own farm.

Or arrive on Mars with a rifle and skinning knife and go off into the
woods to hunt fur.

Not really. Any journey to Mars whether it be one month or twelve, will be hazardous. I have no idea what are the chances of
micro-meteorites but I do know that chance is significantly greater than zero. Plus the radiation should the Sun decide to flare a
little, or a lot. Plus food and water. Plus equipment failure. Etc ...

Yeah, really.

Attempting to compare colonization of Mars to the colonization of the
New World is just silly.

Drop someone with a few survival skills an a knife in the New World
and they have a good chance of surviival.

Drop someone with all the knowledge on the Earth on Mars without a
pressure suit and they are dead in seconds.

and there is still no protection on surface of Mars from meteorites,
radiation,

and there is no air, no water, no food there.

Martians there will hate you for taking their jobs,
Leftist Martians will call conservative Martians racist against Humans,
and persuade new immigrant Humans to vote with the Leftists.

But the entire planet could have unisex bathrooms.

Martians do not poop like Humans. All liquids are recycled.
Martians simply deposit body waste as dry ash.

because of this, you wont find a single Bathroom on Mars.
also, if a Martian throws some ash at you, better duck.

Will you stop with the ignorant comments about "no air, no water"
I thought you had some scientific knowledge. Your comments are
disappointing in that respect.

Yes the air is thin compared to earth, but there is air.
Yes though the water is frozen mostly at the poles and
likely some deep underground, there is water.

Now let's see, living "underground" versus "indoors"
Not really going to see much difference. You still go to bed
in a room with four walls and a ceiling.

Just because you have no pioneering spirit, doesn't mean
others are as fearful as you.

you cant breath it,
Mars has less than 1% of earth and of that 96% is CO2. and only 0.13% O2
a trace gas.

1% is NO AIR.

earth average temp is 57F, Mars is -51F

Mars *may* only have frozen water at the poles, and not detectable in
the atmosphere,

NO WATER.

>

wrong, there is less than 1% and 96% of that is CO2.

not fear, you refuse to face the stark reality that Mars has nothing up

Sorry, I thought you were speaking English. If I say I have
NO apple sauce, that usually means zero apple sauce.

Try melting it in a sealed container.

Do you have a point. There are some days I am not outside
for more than a couple hours.
Wake up in the house, enter garage and get in car.
In car, driving to work.
Okay, where I work now does not have a parking garage, so
I am outside ~2 minutes before I walk in the door.

Work at my desk or in the lab (all within the building)
until the work day is done.

Oh joy another 2 minutes of open air. before I get back into my car.

into the garage and into the house (attached garage if that wasn't
clear to you already).

A little time to relax, then off to bed.
pause 8 hours or so, then repeat from start.

Well you have a right to your opinion.

I'll try to remember that you don't always speak plain English at times.

have a nice day.

When people talk about air, they are talking about the mix of gases
in the Earth's atmosphere. When one goes to a gas supply store to
buy compressed air, that is exactly what they get, not 96% CO2.

Getting to it how, melting it how, purifying it how, and transporting
it how?

Now what anyone would call air.

The atmosphere is so thin and so lacking in oxygen you would be dead
in seconds.

Trace amounts.

The thing is, what industries are needed? Consider that everything they
take will be designed to be operated and maintained by them with the
resources that are expected to be available.

There are no readily available resources on Mars, not even for something
as simple as cement.

It takes a huge amount of people and equipment to make something as
simple as a ventilation fan motor starting from dirt. And that assumes
you can find concentrated deposits of ore to make things like steel,
copper wire, aluminum sheet, etc.

Good luck on making plastic and insulation for the motor; no oil wells
on Mars.
