benj If the Red Spot represents Jupiter's magnetic pole, then perhaps it is close enough to the equator to cause the ring. In which case, Saturn's magnetic North pole must be smack dab right ON the equator.

Odd "Is the aurora something you know nothing about? " I live in Canada. What is pictured at Jupiters pole looks nothing like an aurora. Where is the South Jupiter aurora, then, if there's one at the north?

Odd So- if the North magnetic pole were closer to the equator- what would the magnetic field look like? It's a 10-hour PERIOD, so wouldn't the rotation of the planet shape it to cause aurorae over the rotational poles, anyway? So, how have we excluded the Red Spot being a collection of Fe over the magnetic North Pole?

No. It helps to understand what causes auroras. Specifically, it helps to understand how the magnetosphere funnels charged particles toward the magnetic poles.
