When is the last time Earth sent a monkey (not even landing) around the moon?  Should we just stop practicing all at once the one thing that we so much practiced?

If you're thinking of starting a colony on the Moon with pre-fabricated, 
self-assembling structures, then the answer is no, not yet. But I don't 
see why it can't be done within a human lifetime. Does require some 
major investment though.

The fact that the moon is not included into science expansion is indicative of our limits by mankind to raise funds that make all endeavor of this sort possible. I would answer the question, "why the moon", by saying like a mountain "because it's there". The moon is the closest large body from the Earth. If anything practice, practice, practice for the future of space travel.  Does this sound absurd?

Robotic lunar landers that link together and that anchor themselves to the ground is the only thing possible for a structure on the moon. They could have a double wall where the space between the walls is filled with dirt. But since nothing can be done to strengthen the roof then why bother with the walls ?

Basically, all space exploration can be done robotically. Anything else is just less return on the resources put forward

I know. That's why we have to wait until we are more evolved- stop wasting money on wars and all that. Pretty much mankind spends all his time preoccupied on Earth.  At the same time, we have not protected ourselves from nature.
