* Note to AP: I have made a discovery: A sphere is a conic section. Yesterday I ordered an ice cream cone and a sphere of vanilla ice cream exactly fits into the cone! earle *

A 3D body cannot be a section of 3D surface. The section of the ice cream conic container is the circle touching the cine and the ice cream ball. -- Libor Striz aka Poutnik ( a pilgrim/wanderer/wayfarer) "Humour is the only effective weapon against stupidity." However, if you put a tiny scoop of ice cream in the cone first before the large scoop, you can do a Dandelin Spheres proof and show that an oval formed by a tilted plane intersecting the cone and tangent to the spheres is actually an ellipse.

A cone can be made of concentric circles at tip point getting larger to the bottom. Mitchell Raemsch

Adding the extra scoop sounds like the start of an Apollonian spherical packing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollonian_sphere_packing
