It brings back bad memories for me, of one Halloween when my mom made dinner, and included some round black bread that came out of a can. I think it was Pumpernickel or something. It was the most gawd-awful stuff I had ever tasted, and I didn't want to eat it. My mom said I had to eat it, and I couldn't go trick-or-treating until I did. That turned into a battle of will, and I sat there for over an hour, while kids kept coming to the door... "trick-or-treat!", "trick-or-treat!". I kept asking her to let me go. "NO! Not until you eat it!". Finally, I gave in and forced it down, so she let me go, but by then it was getting late, so it wasn't much fucking fun after that. Was it that important that I ate that shitty bread? Oh, no... what was important, was that she MADE me eat that shitty bread. -- Checkmate ÂŪ Author, Humorist, Cynic Philosopher, Humanitarian Poet, Elektrishun to the Stars Usenet Shot-Caller Copyright ÂĐ 2018 all rights reserved In loving memory of The Battle Kitten May 2010-February 12, 2017 "There are many here among us, who feel that life is but a joke." People can live on that, baked beans and hot dogs. Po' folk food. Starving college kids can survive on it. 1st and 2nd grade trick or treat was pretty tame but after 3rd grade my range increased to cover the town. My sisters would spend their time gabbing but my friends and I would head off on the run with pillow cases. We'd usually fill up 2 or 3 - cover most of the town. Sometimes, the town across the river was on a different night so we'd do a double tap. We'd get a lot of apples and homemade fudge, brownies and peanut brittle. The apples would get turned into applesauce or pies by the mother so we'd have a couple of weeks of dessert supplies. -- Grizzly H.

At Xmyth we have them with chestnuts and bacon lardons as an accompaniment to the turkey dinner. I like cut 'em in half and saute them face down in butter and olive oil with a slice of lemon until they're slightly brown. Then I scoop 'em out of the pan, add garlic and thinly sliced onion and saute until the onions clear (not brown). Then I add a white wine and add the sprouts back and stir gently until the sauce thickens a bit. Bacon bits are a nice touch. Perhaps I'll try that next time. -- Grizzly H.
