Because when electrons turn at speed, they create a magnetic field at right-angles to their turn. This is the basis for your turning signal on your car, which uses windings (turns). Subsequent electrons fall in with that turn- creating a disc- because I’m doing so, they create the same field. This is why all the windings in your turn signal are in the same plane. Electrons will stay as far apart as possible on the disc. This separation is reduced by down electrons being placed in-between- they have opposite spin and actually attract their neighboring up electrons

Porat “because they are not discs !!! ” Whatever. Whip whatever around a central fixed point at .3c and it’ll be a disc. Your chain, whatever. The shape of the electron cloud of 50 billion points of perpetual fusion depends on its circumstances. Within an atom, it is spiraled around a central point because of its speed and flattened because of the magnetic field that it creates- ergo, usually a disc, unless the atom is going through some reaction

You still have never offered an explanation of all the violated laws of physics that would take place if atoms really did get all retarded and became precessing spinny disks. john <johnsefton288@gmail.com> writes: > Subject: Re: Why are atoms discs? That makes as much sense as a subject of "Why is the sky yellow?" The answer is simply, "Because atoms are not disks." Period. Science has evidence, such as X-ray crystallography and how they bond with each other, of the real shape of atoms. The simplest example, an isolated hydrogen atom, has spherical symmetry, it appears the same from any direction, unlike a disk. It looks like you had a bad relapse of retarded spinny thing OCD. Did you smoke some really bad shit from "Little Pharma" again?

if atoms are disks,
they have a hole in the middle,
like very tiny tiny doughnuts.
they can still spin that way too.

benj <benj.fake@gmail.com> writes: > orbitals of atoms come in many shapes. Yes and the electrons don't strictly revolve in orbits. Depending on the number of electrons in the outermost shell the atoms shape can differ. Orbitals are the ‘space’ around the atom that you are most likely to find the electron. In the case of hydrogen the outermost orbital is 1s, which has a spherical shape. Other atoms have other shapes e.g. dumbbell shaped etc.

benj “orbitals of atoms come in many shapes. ” Of course, benj But INSTANTANEOUSLY, all accelerating electrons prefer to share the same plane of acceleration so their fields don’t fight. Fields are real, have personalities, and will fight if crossed
