You see, Michael?
ANY particles are points FROM FAR ENOUGH AWAY.
They aren’t ACTUALLY points.
In the given context- science completely ignorant of size shape and structure as is QM- what else can they say?

so, a point up close is HUGE !! Mega FAT Particles real close up!

actually, you must be talking about 3D space, where things decrease in
size by distance squared.

in 1D space, a line, the point is 100% huge all the time anywhere on the
line.

so, Question is, what happens with a point in 2D space (a flat plane) ?

just draw it out on paper,
it subtends (angle gets smaller, so 'point' appears smaller) as distance
gets larger, or as the inverse tangent of "point size/distance".

remember tan(a) = opposite/adjacent ?
where adjacent is length from the 'point' to eye ?
and opposite is height of 'point' close up?

so you want tan(a) small, and 'a' small

yes they are clearly as big as the width of the line but still their
length is zero as well as their diameter! That is not so huge.

Yeah, so? The earth looks like a point (gravitationally) even from close
up. (oh never mind that, you don't believe in gravity)

>They aren't ACTUALLY points.

So? We're not talking about things that look like points, we're talking
about actual points.

Umm, wait, where's the rest of your logic/proof? Is your argument that
if something looks like a point, there can't actually be any points?

How about this? If Venus looks like a star, there can't actually be any
stars???

Nah Sergio. You don't get it. Some things like Tinkerbell have volume
but no mass. Other things like "point particles" have mass but no
volume. Remember that in odds world, reality is solely determined by
imagination and thought. if you can imagine it, than it is "real".
Simple as that.

Of course we are still waiting for Odd to give us the experiment that
proves that empty space is filled with fields which simply have a zero
value. I guess in that case they have volume (that of the entire
universe) but there is actually nothing there, certainly not mass.
I bet Jackson talks about this.

Well maybe you should read some textbooks to find out, rather than just
forming your own definitions for physics terms.

Trick fails. It's your assertion that empty space is full of zero fields
so YOU provide the confirming experimental references.

The experimental confirmation of Maxwell’s equations and QED might be a
good place to start, both of which are built on premises that fields extend
throughout all space. Which is called out in books that cover those
theories.

On the matter of books, this is the fifth time I’ve asked what
electrodynamics books YOU used in your training as a “trained scientist”,
and all I’ve gotten is evasion.

You say you don’t have Jackson, but you say for certain that Jackson makes
clear in the first chapter he’s going to spend the whole book talking about
fields that are nothing but mathematical fantasy that have nothing to do
with reality. Which must be why it’s such a respected textbook on the
physics of electrodynamics.

So, Ben, really, enough dodging. What book from YOUR training as a “trained
scientist” do you want to hold up as a reference to what PHYSICISTS say
about fields (as opposed to what mathematicians say about fields)? Real
simple question. Author, title, copyright date. I’ll go to the library.

Theory. Clearly fields DO NOT "extend through all space". Every
scientist knows this. Idiot. Read a freshman textbook.

You mean is all you have gotten is explanation that you can't understand
because you aren't willing to think or question your religious beliefs.

Gosh, Maybe it's respected because he agrees with me that fields are
fantasy, and not with you that math is more real than reality. (even
though Jackson is a VERY mathematical book. (You can't possibly hope to
understand Jackson, can you Odd?)

I already used your choice of Jackson and you just rejected what he said
out of hand. You are surely a waste of time.

Fine. Which freshman textbook do YOU recommend. Because all the books I’ve
read say otherwise.

So are you saying I should read the textbooks or not read the textbooks.

You know, I reread the intro and the first chapter of Jackson looking for
what you’re talking about. There is a section I.6 that talks about some of
the limits of idealization that are commonly in play, which is true of ANY
physical model as applied to a real physical system. That should never be
taken to mean that the physical model is a mathematical fantasy that has
nothing to do with reality. In Chapter 1 he reiterates that electrostatics
were devised in the context of macroscopic phenomena and that the
extrapolation to microscopic phenomena is unjustified; this is of course
correct and in the microscopic domain, QED takes over, and the stitching
together comes in the demonstration that QED reduces to classical
electrodynamics in the macroscopic limit. Again, this in no way says that
electrical fields in the macroscopic domain are mathematical fantasy. There
is nothing in these chapters that conveys what you say they do, and in fact
there are lots of statements directly counter to your claim; see the
opening paragraphs of I.4, for example.

If there is language in the book you would like to specifically call out,
try citing a section number and a paragraph you think illustrates your
point.
