Back in 1998, I was having a Sunday lunch with my family and we were
discussing climate change because the kids were covering it at school.
Afterwards, my Mum unexpectedly confronted me with a question: what
would you do about it? Her disarming directness had a strange effect
because, almost from nowhere, I responded that “it would have to happen
simultaneously”. All, or nearly all, nations would have to act
simultaneously.

That must have been why ... /sarc

Kids aren't "covering" climate change in schools today?

You're posting today about an insignificant event from 20 years ago
... because?

>Afterwards, my Mum unexpectedly confronted me with a question: what
>would you do about it? Her disarming directness

Is she usually evasive or obscure?

Does the parental example explain some posts in this group?

>had a strange effect

Is that strange effect persisting 20 years later?

>because, almost from nowhere, I responded that “it would have to happen

"it" what?

>All, or nearly all, nations would have to act
>simultaneously.

How is wanting to control the world a "new way to think?"

If the thought is from a family gathering 20 years ago, it isn't
"new."

Why would controlling the world solve "the world’s biggest problems"
(plural)?

"Act" in what way?

If all nations implemented genocide simultanteously, then there would
be no safe haven. That would most effective, right?

"Maintain" by what means?

Again, not a "new way to think."

kensi, you need to give more context.

This was from the interview, stated by one of the authors,
John Bunzl:

this might have been a better excerpt from the interview

Nick Duffell:
"John then read an early draft of my 2014 book
Wounded Leaders, about the psychology of the UK
political scene, whereupon he invited me to co-author
The SIMPOL Solution. My main task was to set out
the psychological resistance to the idea, which
involved going quite deeply into identity issues
and the psychology of denial. It was especially
important to show how environmentalists failed
to pick up the idea because of their entrenched
identity position of being the ‘good guys’ against
 the ‘bad guys’."

Looks like Duffel has been watching this group!

I thought this was how to think about the world's biggest problems....not
the world's biggest hoax.
