Why did you invent some oddball restriction and claim it's "the only way"? It's not the only way, it's not even a valid way, unless/until you come up with some source of some enormous torque required for a precession, plus variable revolution periods that rule out your beloved 2:1 precession, etc. I guess the actual answer is it's "the only way" your OCD allows you to see it. Don't they have mental health professionals in Canada that can help you with that?

MM So you’re saying that asymmetrical GRCs are because galaxies are elliptical

john <johnsefton288@gmail.com> writes: >MM >So you're saying that asymmetrical GRCs are because galaxies are elliptical Part of it. Galaxies are complicated, they are not about planets orbiting a pointlike mass like a solar system. The stars have to orbit a distribution of mass. That's what the whole thing of galactic rotation curves is all about.

MM “Part of it. Galaxies are complicated, they are not about planets orbiting a pointlike m” Yes yes. You do know that the stars used to obtain GRCs are at equal distances from the center, Michael? How does your idea explain this, again?

Meaning that the gravitational pull is stronger on one side, meaning that orbital speed on that side is higher. Geez. -- Odd Bodkin — Maker of fine toys, tools, tables

Galaxies are complicated, they are not about planets orbiting >a pointlike m" >Yes yes. >You do know that the stars used to obtain GRCs are at equal distances from >the center, Michael? >How does your idea explain this, again? Just like Odd wrote. A spiral galaxy isn't a smooth homogeneous disk. It's lumpy and somewhat irregular, with high density here, low density there, more matter in the arms, less matter between the arms, etc. (John, quit reading here, I'm about to use some bad words) Astronomers will look at the star speeds from many parts of a galaxy, all sides, near the center and at the edges and in between, and they will create a gravity map from that, corresponding to the mass density of the galaxy. They will compare that to optical/infrared/radio maps and the difference will correspond to unseen mass, invisible d*rk m*tt*r. They will create an actual rough map of the d*rk m*tt*r in the galaxy. Did you ever track down a 6 year old to explain "invisible heavy stuff" to you? Some galaxies they have found have almost no d*rk m*tt*r. In many cases they can check for gravitational lensing to help confirm or refute their estimates of the amount of d*rk m*tt*r. You see, that's how real science works. Take the data, come up with a hypothesis that could explain it, and try to verify or refute it with more experiments/data. It is NOT "I thought it up so it must be true!" or butt mining like you, and Plutonium, and several others here seem to believe.

MM “Just like Odd wrote. A spiral galaxy isn't a smooth homogeneous disk. It's lumpy and somewhat irregular, with high density here, low density” What are you guys even talking about? How would that average out to the correct GRC?

How would that average out to the correct GRC? > What do you mean “correct GRC”?? An average is an average, not a target. If I’m going to calculate an average temperature over Illinois, I don’t have some expected value for that average that the average better hit. What you CAN do is say, given the lumpiness of the galaxy, I can predict how much the variation around the average will be. Likewise with temperatures, if I know something about the size and meteorological lumpiness of Illinois, I can tell you what the variations of the temperatures around the average will be. -- Odd Bodkin — Maker of fine toys, tools, tables

Because it somehow clashes with your spinny thing OCD?

Odd By the way , Odd - “The majority of 'elliptical' galaxies are not spherical but disc-shaped, resembling spiral galaxies such as our own Milky Way with the gas and dust removed, new observations suggest.” https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/07/110714101631.htm So much for your ‘discs are in the minority’ crap. You gotta keep up, Odd

Perhaps even kind of depending on "angle of view" wrt the observer, and light bending around large of gravity. Say your device is the camera, and you end up using it to take several shots from multiple angles, at a common target... Imvvvho, they usually seem have a nice, sort of "__-^^bULb^^-__" in the center of the disk, that just might relate to the strength of the central massive black hole in the target galaxy. Humm, or perhaps even a series of hyper dense star clusters rapidly orbiting the center massive black hole? I do NOT know. Just thinking out loud here. Sorry. ;^o , resembling spiral galaxies such as our own Milky Way with the gas and dust removed, new observations suggest.” > > https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/07/110714101631.htm > > So much for your ‘discs are in the minority’ crap. > You gotta keep up, Odd >
