MM “Your reference? Or did you just pull something out of your butt again? ” New stuff happening all the time. For example, from the latest Hubble DATA: ‘When the astronomers split the stars up by age, they found that older stars tend to be in a slightly different plane than the younger ones, like there are two separate disks of stars. It’s not clear why that might be,’ Why do you and Odd think that might be?

Hmm, still no reference for your claim, and now this *new* claim has the two disks become circular (without reference)...

MM “Hmm, still no reference for your claim, and now this *new* claim has the two disks become circular (without reference)... ” I think if discs are non-circular, they don’t call them discs, Michael.

Odd “So your logic is in the words, not in the observation. To you, there can be no such thing as a disc with asymmetry. If it’s a disc, then it’s circular, and if it’s circular it’s not asymmetric. ” You have always seemed excessively focussed- obsessed?- with the exceptions to the rule. Which you then use as proof that the rule is wrong. You seem to be trying to prove that not all discs are circular, therefore SOME stars could be moving slower on one side of a whirlpool-like unit, therefore ALL galaxies we have examined for galactic rotation curves and found opposite sides to be asymmetrical in a way that their AVERAGE is the GRC. Is that about it? So you are saying that ALL galaxies are oblate discs? Is this what we see?

MM “They don't? ” Haha. Sciencewriters is where you get your science? Discs can be ellipses- got it ‘disk disk/Submit noun noun: disc 1. a flat, thin, round object. "heavy metal disks the size of hockey pucks" synonyms: circle, round, saucer, discus, ring, round; coin "the sun was a huge scarlet disc" 2. a shape or surface that is round and flat in appearance. "the smudged yellow disk of the moon" ‘ Hmm. Don’t see any ellipses Michael

Just google “asymmetric disc”. Choose the images option if that helps. A common asymmetric disc is a cam. The only person who’s going to do any backpedaling is you, and it’s because you are the one with simple minded ideas of what words mean. “They wouldn’t call them disc galaxies if they had any asymmetry.” Sheesh. -- Odd Bodkin — Maker of fine toys, tools, tables

john <johnsefton288@gmail.com> writes: >MM >"They don't? " >Haha. >Sciencewriters is where you get your science? No, that's your forte. Actually your forte is _misinterpreting_ pop science writing. (like that NASA 'black hole eats a star' site) That website happened to be the first hit when typing "elliptical disk" at Google. You do know what Google is, don't you? What you should be using instead of demanding everyone else spoon feed you information. >Discs can be ellipses- got it Good. Glad that you realized you were being stupid. >disk/Submit >noun >noun: disc >1. >a flat, thin, round object. >"heavy metal disks the size of hockey pucks" >synonyms: circle, round, saucer, discus, ring, round; coin >"the sun was a huge scarlet disc" >2. >a shape or surface that is round and flat in appearance. >"the smudged yellow disk of the moon" >Hmm. >Don't see any ellipses Michael I see "round". So tell us, how would you describe the shape of an egg or ellipse: round, square, triangular or something else? And even for a perfectly circular spiral galaxy, the inside rotates faster than the outside anyway, making the idea of retarded precessing spinny things in a 1:2 ratio absurd for galaxies.

MM “Discs can be ellipses- got it Good. Glad that you realized you were being stupid” Ok, Michael- so you’re saying that the stars go different speeds on the opposite sides of an ellipse, because an ellipse is asymmetrical? Got it

MM “Discs can be ellipses- got it Good. Glad that you realized you were being stupid” Ok, Michael- so you’re saying that the stars go different speeds on the opposite sides of an ellipse, because an ellipse is asymmetrical? Got it “ Don’t bother replying. The only way the asymmetrical GRCs can be explained is precession of the disc. You’re trying to say an asymmetrical disc would do that, but those asymmetrical discs would all have to have their midline the same way compared to us for them to ALL AVERAGE OUT to tie actual GRC, like they do. And they do. So you’re just grasping at straws, guys Sky Falling Odd !!!

Your response is to say, “no choice, it’s the only option,” which is an outright lie. > You’re trying to say an asymmetrical disc would do that, but those > asymmetrical discs would all have to have their midline the same way > compared to us for them to ALL AVERAGE OUT to tie actual GRC, like they do. No that’s not what would be required. Good grief, John. Imagine a cam, but it’s not a cam made out of uniform material it’s an amalgam of cotton and rocks and lumps of metal jammed into that shape, and so the mass density is not uniform. That’s what a galaxy is like. It is not smooth or symmetrical, it’s mass distribution is lumpy and not uniform, it has holes and sparse pockets and high density bands that are not evenly distributed. Don’t oversmooth a galaxy into something it’s not! The GRC asymmetries are at the few percent level, and that is easily understood in terms of nonuniformities in the distribution of matter and unevenness of the shape. > And they do. > So you’re just grasping at straws, guys > Sky > Falling > Odd > !!! > -- Odd Bodkin — Maker of fine toys, tools, tables
