Well for one thing, spiral galaxies are a minority type to begin with. That
is an example of data answering your “why wouldn’t it?” question.

What makes you think there is no asymmetry in the Milky Way’s rotation?

Milky Way core or center rotates but the arms stars are in
gravitational orbit around it.

No, it doesn't. The inner stars orbit at a different rate than the outer
stars do.

New stuff happening all the time.
For example, from the latest Hubble DATA:

‘When the astronomers split the stars up by age, they found that older stars tend to be in a slightly different plane than the younger ones, like there are two separate disks of stars. It’s not clear why that might be,’
Why do you and Odd think that might be?

You answered a question I didn't ask.

What is your reference for your claim the Milky Way is circular?

Right now, it appears your claim is brown and smells bad.

Hmm, still no reference for your claim, and now this *new* claim has
the two disks become circular (without reference)...

So your logic is in the words, not in the observation.
To you, there can be no such thing as a disc with asymmetry. If it’s a
disc, then it’s circular, and if it’s circular it’s not asymmetric.

You have always seemed excessively focussed- obsessed?- with the exceptions to the rule. Which you then use as proof that the rule is wrong.
You seem to be trying to prove that not all discs are circular, therefore SOME stars could be moving slower on one side of a whirlpool-like unit, therefore ALL galaxies we have examined for galactic rotation curves and found opposite sides to be asymmetrical in a way that their AVERAGE is the GRC. Is that about it?

So you are saying that ALL galaxies are oblate discs?
Is this what we see?

No John, as mentioned to you before, spiral disc galaxies are a minority

John, good grief. Just google “asymmetric disc”. Choose the images option
if that helps.

A common asymmetric disc is a cam.

The only person who’s going to do any backpedaling is you, and it’s because
you are the one with simple minded ideas of what words mean.

“They wouldn’t call them disc galaxies if they had any asymmetry.” Sheesh.

No, that's your forte. Actually your forte is _misinterpreting_ pop
science writing. (like that NASA 'black hole eats a star' site)

That website happened to be the first hit when typing "elliptical disk"
at Google. You do know what Google is, don't you? What you should be using

I see "round". So tell us, how would you describe the shape of an egg
or ellipse: round, square, triangular or something else?

And even for a perfectly circular spiral galaxy, the inside rotates
faster than the outside anyway, making the idea of retarded precessing
spinny things in a 1:2 ratio absurd for galaxies.

Don’t bother replying.
The only way the asymmetrical GRCs can be explained is precession of the disc.
You’re trying to say an asymmetrical disc would do that, but those asymmetrical discs would all have to have their midline the same way compared to us for them to ALL AVERAGE OUT to tie actual GRC, like they do.
And they do.
So you’re just grasping at straws, guys

> The only way the asymmetrical GRCs can be explained is precession of the disc.

No John, that’s not the only way. It’s a way you like but which has
problems. Your response is to say, “no choice, it’s the only option,” which
is an outright lie.

No that’s not what would be required. Good grief, John. Imagine a cam, but
it’s not a cam made out of uniform material it’s an amalgam of cotton and
rocks and lumps of metal jammed into that shape, and so the mass density is
not uniform. That’s what a galaxy is like. It is not smooth or symmetrical,
it’s mass distribution is lumpy and not uniform, it has holes and sparse
pockets and high density bands that are not evenly distributed.

Don’t oversmooth a galaxy into something it’s not! The GRC asymmetries are
at the few percent level, and that is easily understood in terms of
nonuniformities in the distribution of matter and unevenness of the shape.
