After reading Mary Beth Pfeiffer's engrossing new book, Lyme, you will probably want to kill any tick you can find, donate to Lyme research, and find out if you are at risk for tick-borne diseases. Spoiler alert: Your risk is likely increasing. https://psmag.com/environment/global-warming-increases-instances-of-lyme -- "To explain the unknown by the known is a logical procedure; to explain the known by the unknown is a form of theological lunacy." ~David Brooks "I get fooled all the time by the constant hosiery parade in here." ~Checkmate

I have a moss patch that I want to clear anyway. I dumped a mess of lime on it last summer so the soil underneath ought to be good. The worms are already working it so I'll scrape off the moss and turn it over with some compost. Basil, garlic, rosemary and oregano and some lavender too. Maybe peppers but I haven't decided what kind. I'll see what the farm puts out in starter pots. -- Grizzly H.

Luckily for ticks it only got to freezing (which idiot journalists think kills them) not to -11 F which actually does kill them.

Some house keeping an active countermeasure and you can largely eliminate ticks from your yard. Of course, I've yet to see that a 0.1C temperature difference is really going to make any difference.
