Games have allowed me to learn about strategy and therefore to become a
much better sports coach. Not only that, but it has enhanced my reflexes
and made me a lot more useful as a defender or a goaltender whenever I
play a sport. Some games even teach about historical elements
(Assassin's Creed and Civilization for instance) which have allowed me
to excel whenever I studied History.

Games also make people curious about programming which helps them in
Mathematical subjects as it has for me in particular.

I don't even think _you_ know what you're talking about.

Either way, just finished DmC: Devil May Cry. It's definitely one of the
better titles I've played in my life and it's a Windows/console
exclusive. Maybe in a few years they'll make a Linux port but I wouldn't
hold my breath.

Fallout 4 is about to be released.  Perhaps you've heard of it?  It's 
interactive fiction, with a story -- only, you "live" the story in a 
"virtual environment".

I love reading, too, and books can be immersive -- but games can be much 
more immersive, if done right.  Like all art:  there is good art, and bad 
art.

Most of the computers here at the library are used by people playing games.  Even I occasionally play a game of chess.
