Why do you babble such nonsense? Anyway, the problem (for you) is that atoms have clouds of electrons surrounding a positive nucleus, and these negative clouds repel the corresponding clouds of other atoms (unless they form a bond). This is the reason why atoms "bounce off" each other. They repel when they get too close. Meanwhile, galaxies have no equivalent, so there is nothing preventing a mostly empty galaxy from passing right through another mostly empty galaxy, even if their gravitational interactions disrupt each other.

MM Nono. Halton Arp claimed that two galaxies were interacting, and the powers that be proclaimed that they were far, far apart, and just in the same sight-line. You need a picture from two different angles to prove that your 'colliding' galaxies are anywhere near each other, and not just in the same sight line. Where is it?

Chris "Can't two galaxies merge together? Even if mostly empty, if their central black holes get too close, they can eventually merge together? " Ellipticals are thought to be the result of two galaxies merging. Perhaps, in my world, ellipticals would correspond to molecules, while the "colliding galaxies" might be like ionic bonding. Could fly.

MM snipped this: "s. Thus, a very large fraction of one particular type of galaxy exists in small collisional groups, and most of the members of this class have unbalanced spiral waves or bars." 'One type of galaxy' tends to pair and share. It's not collisions, its collusion

Nope. 'One type of galaxy' has been partially disrupted by a close pass with another.

A VERY LARGE fraction of ONE PARTICULAR TYPE are in small collisional groups. You can't read!! That's your problem!!

Yes, that section of the article discusses asymmetric spiral galaxies with a companion. So it looks like the companions disrupted the galaxies to a certain extent in the past making them asymmetric with unbalanced arms. And this is extremely important because.....???

Poor John says Perhaps, in my world, ellipticals would correspond to molecules, while the "colliding galaxies" might be like ionic bonding. Could fly. .......... THIS is exactly the reason I am here. Not because (as some believe) that I am a secret government disinfo agent. But to debate the merits of poor scientific ideas. This rapidly morphed into almost 100% just insulting people along with their mothers. And this came after doing what Mr Bodkin does... Actually try to engage the kook in a science conversation. Mike Maroney still does this a bit, but I can tell he's about ready to go into full insult mode. There comes a point in any debate regarding belief where people are afraid to question their own value system. They simply shut down the critical thinking part of their brain and just say they "accept it on faith". Well, god didn't make me that way. She made me to question everything including her own existence. To not question the reality of god, or anything paranormal, is to defy the will of god. So go fuck yourself with your "maybe it will fly" brand of science

Plenty more on the TV where that came from.

"Chris M. Thomasson" <invalid@invalid.invalid> writes: >Can't two galaxies merge together? Even if mostly empty, if their >central black holes get too close, they can eventually merge together? Sure. They would transfer momentum to each other which slows them down I believe. If slowed enough, they could make another pass slowing more then they soon merge.
