john <johnsefton288@gmail.com> writes: >Michael >Sorry, not Odd. >You know there's no electron sized grass how? The atom smasher guys would have found such "grass" long ago. The only things smaller than protons & neutrons are the electron, muon, some mesons, neutrinos and the (massless) photon. Maybe the tau with a mass about a proton's as well, I forget.

MM "ago. The only things smaller than protons & neutrons are the electron, " So, MM and Odd, as we look at smaller and smaller things, do you 'imagine ' that everything just gets simpler and simpler, gradually losing detail and getting grainier and grainier? Slowly losing resolution? Until there just isn't any discernible 'shape', anymore? Or do you imagine that it happens more suddenly? Please tell me how it is where 'only a few' actual structures still remain. Is it misty and cloudy and kind of foggy?

In fact so smallest their size is ZERO! As the Mad Hatter said: What you mean is you can't have anything LESS than an electron.

And as to the exact location of an electron in it's orbital, I told you that question is irrelevant. It is irrelevant in any quantum calculation or theory. What *does* matter is probability. I know you don't like it. Boo-Fucking-Hoo

Kinda. Beginning books on quantum mechanics show how as you move outward in scale from the microscope, that lumpiness gets fuzzier until it starts to at least approximately give the impressions from ordinary scales. You know there are ordinary scale impressions that are just not so. Solid objects do not ever touch. Smooth surfaces are not really smooth. Gases are not really continuous media. Those are all APPROXIMATIONS to the real truth. > Until there just isn't any discernible 'shape', > anymore? > Or do you imagine that it happens more > suddenly? > Please tell me how it is where 'only a few' > actual structures still remain. Odd " How soon, John? I'm willing to lay down a bet. " Well, let's see- Rainer Beck has observed that your 'illusory' galactic arms are surrounded by a helical magnetic field. Our Sun produces a magnetic vortex (the IMF- Interplanetary Magnetic Field). You say there's no connection. So...... if ur a typical scientist, I'd say when you and others like you are dead. So.... yes, let's bet, but it'll cost you an added codicil.

Oh good gracious, you've been reading law books again. Down that path lies madness. Don't do it John! oops, too late. ed ed ed

So....where's your data and math showing the strengths of these magnetic fields and the forces they apply to each other, and how much these forces affect the motion of the sun and other stars, and ... I don't think I've ever called galactic arms illusory. What is true is that stars migrate from one arm to the next, just like an air molecule migrates from one sound wave to the next. What is also true is that galactic arms are not separated by clean voids between them that would prevent characteristic gamma rays from being produced if the arms were matter and antimatter. So be careful about what I've said and what I've not said but you assume. > Our Sun produces > a magnetic vortex (the IMF- Interplanetary > Magnetic Field). > You say there's no connection. > So...... > if ur a typical scientist, I'd say when you and > others like you are dead. Odd You don't imagine the 50 billion stars in each arm, each of which is creating an IMF, might be combining to create the arm's helical magnetic field? Why ever not? You have a good imagination.

Or, all those magnetic fields, oriented at random, might just cancel each other out. Just like a piece of ordinary, unmagnetized steel. It consists of a whole bunch of domains, each a little magnet, oriented at random, so most pieces of steel are nonmagnetic. >Why ever not? >You have a good imagination.

Why yes, John, it is entirely likely that the magnetic fields of the stars in a galactic arm contribute to the magnetic fields seen in the arm and in the galaxy as a whole. This STILL does not change the fact that stars migrate from one arm to the next, like air molecules migrate from one sound wave to the next. And it STILL does not change the fact that arms are not cleanly separated to prevent characteristic gamma rays from the contact of matter in one arm with antimatter in the next arm. I don't know why you think that helical magnetic fields in galactic arms tell you that stars stay in one arm, and that arms have big voids between them through which no matter or antimatter passes. > Why ever not? > You have a good imagination. > -- Odd Bodkin -- maker of fine toys, tools, tables

Odd " Why yes, John, it is entirely likely that the magnetic fields of the stars in a galactic arm contribute to the magnetic fields seen in the arm and in the galaxy as a whole. " Yes, of course. "This STILL does not change the fact that stars migrate from one arm to the next, like air molecules migrate from one sound wave to the next. " No way. The field contains the stars. You DO know that magnets affect each other? "And it STILL does not change the fact that arms are not cleanly separated to prevent characteristic gamma rays from the contact of matter in one arm with antimatter in the next arm". Again; the helical fields of opposite arms are OPPOSITE, and so must REPEL each other. At least for stars that have magnetic fields. Maybe white dwarfs don't have magnetic fields. " I don't know why you think that helical magnetic fields in galactic arms tell you that stars stay in one arm, and that arms have big voids between them through which no matter or antimatter passes. " I know you didn't. Now you do. The reason is that Magnets interact. If you had had a scientific bent, growing up, you would have played with magnets instead of wood and already known this.
