(For example, why carbon likes to form four bonds, while hydrogen does one.) It explains where electrons are found in the atom, quantitatively. It explains the size of atoms, quantitatively. It explains which states can transition to which other states, by virtue of selection rules on angular momentum, which then in turn determines exactly what wavelengths of light will be emitted from an atom, quantitatively. John, in the "atom in a box" type explanation, the electron is considered a _wave_, so arguing about where it is or anything doesn't make sense.
