For some reason the politics/propaganda of the time was that getting to the moon first proved the superiority of Communism over Capitalism, or Capitalism over Communism, depending on who won. The Soviets started off far ahead of the US in the space race, but fell behind. The Soviets gave up on their own moon landing program not long after a few Apollo landings, after all, who wants to be second?

In fact, the larger Muslim community is a clear and present danger to America. You want to minimize this threat in much the same manner as Chamberlain did with Germany prior to ww2. The only way to do them is to kill them and then put so much fear into the Muslim community that they will report any terrorists in their midst.
