Poverty leads to obesity only because, as you said, the poor are usually too dense to understand that there is no nutritional value in the foods they consider to be plentiful like breakfast cereals, prepared meals like Hungry Man garbage and soft drinks. Generally, these poor are also unable and unwilling to cook despite their abundance of time so foods filled with MSGs which require no more than a microwave as preparation tend to be their first picks. Having worked as a teacher in many areas filled with poverty, every fat kid I've faced had parents who did exactly what I described above and they were generally already grossly overweight by the age of 12.

I occasionally make lazy food choices myself. And I suffer for it later by having to adjust and work it off. I hate to think of what would happen if I did not try most of the time to make responsible choices regarding food intake.

So I have to supplement that. It is all too easy to take in way too many carbs, but still need enough for energy. Need some fat too. Macro counting is tedious and depressing, so I don't really do that, but I do try to use common sense overall and not take in junk calories except for an occasional desert, which always ends up making me feel like crap physically after eating it. This is the reason that I don't have year-round abs.

As I write this, I'm not eating anything healthy either. On the other hand, I have every intention of going to the gym tomorrow afternoon and the day after that. I like to believe that it makes up for my poor choices. I'm sure that _some_ fat, poor people would go to the gym too but they can't afford it and aren't likely to consider running or jogging a viable, cost-effective alternative.

I ride a road bike, fast, for almost an hour every day, and longer on weekends. It makes me feel better about imbibing a bottle or two of my favorite (double) IPA beers. :-) <hiccup> -- Blow it out your ear.

I do it for myself but I also feel that I should keep myself attractive to the woman I love.

I think it's probably the majority of people who exercise, do it so that they can excuse the less-healthy things that they do. At least, that's one of their reasons. -- "Trouble is, there isn't any leadership." - some piece of shit that calls itself "GreyCloud", attacking software Freedom
