We have at least two reusable spacecraft (X37B) based on that design that operate in space for months. It is an extremely versatile and efficient design now that they took the weak link out of the loop...People.

The Russians did with a shuttle that looks a lot like a copy of the US
shuttle.

The program fell apart along with the Soviet Union.
