If that is true, who > do you think owns the responsibility for that state of > affairs, liberals or conservatives? It is not likely to be true but even if it is, spanking is not the only way to discipline children. I absolutely agree that many kids have poor manners and are not being raised well. My kids have been home schooled most of their school careers. I get to see first hand how the kids act in schools. There ARE some "good" ones but FAR too much pushing and shoving and other nonsense. The kids who push and shove are rewarded for it by getting things where there is not enough for all -- say a treat in the lunch room (why do they not have enough for all anyway)? My kids are repeatedly complimented for their polite behavior at after school programs, library events, Girl Scouts, etc. I know my wife and I do not and did not tolerate such behavior (at their age now it is not an issue). Does not mean my kids never do "bad" things -- of course they did and still do... they are not perfect, but I am very proud of how well behaved and how helpful they are to others. -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. They cannot use reason to show the message to be wrong so they try to feel somehow superior by attacking the messenger. They cling to their attacks and ignore the message time and time again. <https://youtu.be/H4NW-Cqh308>

But why don't you answer the question? Do you think it's liberals or conservatives who have pushed for enacting laws against giving good old-fashioned behind-the-woodshed discipline to unruly brats?

In my first teaching experience back in 2004, our principal was a guy who had never taught a day in his life. Before admistering for the school, he was a psychologist of some sort and felt that every troubled child or problem could be resolved rationally. The consequence was that he had no authority whatsoever and the kids took advantage of him all the time. They would purposely discard their trash on the floor, even if the garbage can was a foot away from them, to send a message. They would do it right in front of him too knowing that there were little more than insignificant consequences for their actions or none at all. < snip Michael Glasser idiocy >

I know of a case in my previous school board where two teachers were essentially being kicked and smacked by the children and, despite controlling themselves for as long as they could, eventually ended up putting their hands on the students. One simply grabbed the kid and told him to stop and the other, if I remember correctly, might have shoved the kid out of her way. The result: the kid goes home to mommy, arrogantly tells her what the teachers did carefully omitting what led to the teacher's response and both teachers were arrested. You can imagine whether they will get to hold onto their jobs. In fact, when I left the public system a few months ago and decided to move into private one, my old school scrambled to find someone to replace me and they ended up with a woman who had retired as a teacher. I could control these groups while I was there and I guess the woman tried as well but something happened and she got arrested as well. Apparently, one of the many "wonderful" kids who had never tasted the back of their parents' hands decided to injure themselves across the neck leaving a mark. Obviously, though the woman most likely never touched them, they went straight to the principal and blamed her. To say the least, I left at the most perfect time since they most likely would have tried something like that with me as well. Considering how tall, muscular and intimidating I look, I wouldn't have had a chance with the cops or a judge. Meanwhile, the kids I have in the private system laugh about how they get spanked if ever they do something their parents don't approve of and they are the nicest, hardest-working, most respectful bunch of adolescents I have ever come across. < snip Michael Glasser idiocy >

Nanny states, the likes of which Michael Glasser of Prescott, Arizona is hoping the all of the United States will soon get to enjoy. All we need to know about spanking is that when it's _unwarranted_ and endless, it can be considered damaging and will likely lead the child to become an adult with low self-esteem. However, if it is warranted and dished out as a last resort when a child truly doesn't understand the rules, it leads to improved behaviour. Unfortunately, academics believe that children can be reasoned with and while that is true to a certain degree, sometimes they don't understand unless some aggression is displayed or delivered. It also doesn't lead to a broken relationship with the person dishing out the punishment as the children eventually grow to understand why they were punished and even respect the person who hurt them. In fact, they tend to respect the person's authority even long after it is clear that the punisher no longer holds any kind of size or strength advantage over his supposed victim. All of this is common sense. Of course, none of it appears in testimonies made by experts - most of which have never had children and those who do tend to neglect them - in the books and the result is that the legal system tries to enforce new theories on behaviour rather than millennia-old practises which have been proven efficient.

I live in a conservative state and the kids I see at schools and in library programs and elsewhere mostly are NOT. Now I will not say this means all kids of liberal parents are well behaved... I know both liberal and conservative families who believe in "unschooling" and other things I think are paramount to neglect and their kids reflect this... but the assumption that one MUST spank or that liberals in general have less well behaved kids is something you have offered no support for and I and my kids are a living counter to (though to be fair, when they were very young I did spank them a few times ... right or wrong it was the best I knew how to do and I make no apologies for it). -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. MainStream Media worships BlueEyed Norway. Ashamed of their racism, they self-flagellate, talking endlessly about how white, Christian males oppress women, blacks and Muslims; to them, Asia doesn't exist.
