So far, as far as I know, there now exist four states of matter.

Of course water is an object. Water==Pani (In Hindi) can be solid,
liquid, steam, ionic, or can become a plasma as (H, H, O). H_2 O.

Water O water... what is your colour... whatever you mix with... you become...

Water is perhaps the greatest object in the whole entire Universe for Life.

Is water a 4D object? Of course! Starmaker you'd know that if you drank it,
shaved with it, or swam in it (oceans, rivers, pools), or just ever showered.

Ever, in your whole entire life, you go DanSingħing in the rain? Gene Kelly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1ZYhVpdXbQ Singing In The Rain, Enjo(y)!

Ergo, One can never come to the same river twice. Who said/wrote that?!

I'm aware of that misguided logic/stance. I call it the $Bill Gates$ Principle.

Why not just insist a tennis player or a golfer need no practice to play either?
Why not insist a pianist or violinist just play Mozart without any practice?

All said and done, this is an ESP NG. ESP? Well, who needs stinkin words...

It's all about cross section no matter how many dimensions. The cross section of a 3D object is a 2D closed curve, the cross section of a 4D object is a 3D closed volume.

It doesn't have to be simply connected though, depends on the shape of the 4D object and where you take the section, i. e. how the two objects are oriented WRT each other.

One-dimension-down example; what is the mutual cross section of a pencil and a doughnut? De[ends on their mutual orientation.

One 3D cross section of a hypertorus would be two spheres that remain the same distance apart.

So, do we get any restrictions on the topologies of the 4D objects?

No, no restrictions. A very open ended question with one exact solution.

Actually this problem was posed only in a classroom, with five students,
and not a word was mentioned regards greater than 4D. Not sure why.
There did not exist any assigned textbook either. Library's two floors away.
Also, my professor used to have this look: Why is Mahipal the only one to
show up for class/lectures?! I could have a life if he didn't show up!

The more I think about it, the more I want to find my classroom notes.
I do remember that beautiful mathematician girl that made copies of them...
Seriously, she shows up the last week of the semester, asks to copy my notes...
I've not seen her or the professor since then... we've got to move on...

Shoot a pencil at the center of a doughnut edge-on and it can't miss. Turn the doughnut and the pencil goes through the hole. If you could rotate the doughnut through another dimension you'd get two doughy circles a fixed distance apart.

In 4D you have another axis to rotate the hyperdoughnut through that will allow the hyperpencil to pass through it.

Hmm. I'm a visual thinker (who can occasionally visualize simple 4D situations) but writing equations to fit the physics is not my thing.

> Actually this problem was posed only in a classroom, with five students,

Probably because the rotation options get too broad to make a unique solution possible. My mind is wriggling around inside my skull trying to model five dimensions.

Cool! But that link is a really weird twist to what I was thinking comedically.
Vera is known as Norm's loving invisible wife in the 11 years long TV sitcom Cheers.
Moral? Invisible wives are the best kind! Sure, you wish I was joking...

Life==Girl. Great transformation, IMHO. Some words have meanings/balls...

He he... too funny! And I will review and work on my topology knowledge/books.
I always just studied topology as a hobby in my spare time. No formal classes.
My favourite Yes album? Glad you Mark asked... Tales of Topological/Topographic Oceans.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rwNe2QXwrU Tales from Topographic Oceans, Yes!
00:00 - The Revealing Science of God (Dance of the Dawn)
22:22 - The Remembering (High the Memory)
43:00 - The Ancient (Giants under the Sun)

My friend, since high school, whose name is also Mark, and I, went to one Yes concert.
Mark always knew better deeper English songs than that I did in English. I hate him!
House of four doors... we could live here forever -- The Moody Blues.

Topology developed as a field of study out of geometry and set theory,
through analysis of concepts such as space, dimension, and transformation.[2]
Such ideas go back to Gottfried Leibniz, who in the 17th century
envisioned the geometria situs (Greek-Latin for "geometry of place")

Why wouldn't I just eat the doughnut and use the pencil to write lyrics?

Neat... hyperdoughnut plus hyperpencil equals more homework for me to do.
I hate you too MarkJi! How dare you?! How dare you give me more homework?!

As I understand math, all equations already exist. On page, some number, somewhere.
For one, there's the really weird(y) one Master Equation by Paul Ehrenfest.

It's a neat 4D objects collision problem. I've concluded the answer is
the same for greater than 4D -- with or without rotations. There is in
fact a unique numerical solution. Same as it ever was... or will be...

He, the professor, was very patient with me, lectured the whole hour, even if
just to me alone. Often. Of course, I went to the class because it was scheduled!
He was/is a very kind teacher... I should really go and try find the class notes.

Zero, because there are no four-dimensional objects.

You are about to enter another dimension,

a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind.

A journey into a wondrous land of imagination.

Next stop, the Object Zone!

Why are there 4D collisional probability problems in mathematical physics?

Btw, zero is the correct answer. Your reasoning/conclusion/proclamation is suspect.
For in Nature, 4D objects exist but just without colliding.

I did state it was a neat mathematical physics homework assignment. Graduate college.

He he... as a teenager I used to watch Twilight Zone shows.
There was this one with an old man, all alone alive at the end of Earth.
He thrists for knowledge, companionship. Finds a library. Books! Excited.
Then he accidently drops his glasses, smashing the lenses. Unable to see/read.

The third dimension is just a step below the fourth, chris.
It's a big step, granted, but it's just one step.
Now, every point in our space is part of a perpendicular line in the
fourth dimension.
So? So although all the lines forming the fourth dimension are
perpendicular to every point in the third, they're not necessarily
parallel to us.
But if enough of the lines are parallel in both dimensions in a given
area, it might create an opening.
What, has this opening always been here? It might have been.
I doubt it, though.
Believe me, i'm no expert on this.
Who is? But i suspect that junctures between dimensions are freaks of
nature that happen who knows how often.
Rarely, i'd say.
I hope.

I was only inserting the Twilight Zone script:

The third dimension is just a step below the fourth, chris.
It's a big step, granted, but it's just one step.
Now, every point in our space is part of a perpendicular line in the

So? So although all the lines forming the fourth dimension are
