Some isotopes seem to have decay rates affected by the distance to the
sun. Presumably neutrino flux is involved because their is no diurnal
correlation. (We assume that Earth is negligible as a shield.)

I understand from a recent post here (sorry - I cannot remember who
authored it) that most decay is based upon interaction of the nuclei
with high-energy particles that spontaneously appear as part of the
'normal' creation/anihilation of high energy particle pairs. When one of
these is close enough to a nuclei, the decay takes place. (Also, the
corresponding particle from the original pair that is not involved is
seen to be created as well.)

Has anyone done any tests (i.e. deep underground) to see if decay is
initiated instead by 'garden variety' gamma rays?

Radioactive decay is affected by spinning the object at high speed.
